The fruits of the Japanese Barberry shrub are one of the "jewels" of the popular Persian dish, Javaher Polow (Jeweled Rice). You need less than ½ cup of berries, which are currently abundant on shrubs in urban and forested spaces in West Michigan. Practice making this dish with us in your own kitchen, and you’ll feel confident making it for family and friends as the holiday season approaches.
